Locally
The sight conservation programs of
the Lions are the main focus of our club.
Examples of projects and supported
by the Richmond Host Lions in recent years include:
-
Purchased approximately $10,000
worth of eyeglasses annually for the indigent in
Richmond.
-
Recycled over 1,000 pairs of
used eyeglasses.
-
Purchased adaptive
computer equipment for visually impaired
students.
-
Supported the Virginia
Association of Workers for the Blind, Burkeville
Lodge renovation
-
Worked with Virginia
Rehabilitation Center for the Blind Volunteer
Council
-
Financially supported Prevent
Blindness Virginia and Leader Dogs for the
Blind.
-
Supported events for blind
citizens, such as Blind Bowling League and
Christmas Party for the Blind.
With funds raised we are also able
to support other organizations such as The Virginia
Lions Hearing Foundation, The Central Virginia Lions
Hearing Aid Bank, The Communication Center for the
Deaf, Lions Bland Memorial Music Scholarships, the
Spinoza Bear Program and individual visually
impaired persons in our community.

Internationally
Founded in 1922, the RICHMOND HOST
LIONS CLUB is the third oldest Lions Club in
Virginia and is affiliated with LIONS CLUBS
INTERNATIONAL (LCI).
Lions Clubs International is
comprised of approximately 1.4 million members in
46,000 clubs in 193 countries around the world. Our
Motto is “We Serve” … and we serve our communities
by our efforts in Sight and Hearing Conservation
Programs and our Youth Outreach projects.
Our 1.3 million men and women in 200 countries and
geographic areas conduct vision and health
screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals,
award scholarships, assist youth, provide help in
time of disaster and much more.
